Jacob deGrom, as expected, has officially been scratched from Friday’s spring training start after feeling tightness in his right shoulder while playing catch on Thursday.
The concern level is obviously high at Mets camp, as the superstar ace battled multiple injuries last season, including a shoulder issue. It was an elbow injury that ended his season last July, derailing what had been one of the most dominant seasons in baseball history up to that point.

Now, with less than a week until his scheduled Opening Day start, deGrom will head for an MRI, with his status for the season opener uncertain.
DeGrom had looked like his typical dominant self in two spring training appearances, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out 10, and the velocity appeared in line with his career norms. Now, the Mets can only wait and hope the anchor of what they believe to be one of the best rotations in baseball won’t be sidelined to start the season.
