The Mets have provided an update on Jacob deGrom after his latest follow-up MRI, revealing that the imaging showed “continued healing” in his scapula, which suffered a stress reaction that has kept him out for the entire season so far.
DeGrom, who struggled with injury much of last season and was shut down after the All-Star break, “will continue to build distance and velocity in his throwing program.”

When deGrom’s initial MRI revealed the stress reaction on April 1, he was shut down for four weeks, and now, going on six weeks, it is nearly certain that he won’t be ready by early June like the team initially hoped. He would still have to complete a throwing program, face live hitters, and undergo a rehab assignment. Late June or even early July, given how cautious New York is with its ace, appears much more likely.
The Mets’ rotation was a strength early in the season without deGrom, but Tylor Megill is now on the 15-day IL with biceps inflammation, joining deGrom.
