Never one to ruffle feathers, Tuesday’s decision to cancel the first two series of the MLB regular season brought out a side of Mike Trout not often seen, with the Angels megastar tweeting his support for the players’ union following a week of frustrating labor talks in Florida.

While Trout wasn’t present for those negotiations, it didn’t stop the three-time MVP from calling out owners for not “bargaining in good faith.” The All-Star outfielder was similarly critical of commissioner Rob Manfred, holding him at least partially responsible for the league’s ongoing labor crisis.

Trout also shared a statement by the MLBPA while retweeting a post from Giants pitcher Alex Wood, who says ownership misrepresented the climate of Monday’s bargaining session, projecting a false sense of optimism in an effort to turn public favor against the players.

You know baseball’s labor drama has reached a boiling point when the silent assassin Mike Trout of all people chimes in. Most would agree the previous CBA was largely one-sided, with players receiving few if any concessions from MLB. The players association, led by executive director Tony Clark and chief negotiator Bruce Meyer, made sure to hold their ground this time, refusing to let ownership get the upper hand.

With the two sides at an impasse, it’s anyone’s guess when we’ll see the Millville Meteor back on a major-league diamond.
