A banner to commemorate the Houston Astros' controversial 2017 World Series victory has reportedly been stolen.

The metal banner, which is one of several in the stadium plaza outside of Minute Maid Park appeared to have been pried off from the brace with the 2018 division series championship banner suffering some damage as well.

The franchise has announced they will not be releasing any of the security footage from the incident, likely in an effort to avoid the whole city on the look for the suspect.

While most stros' fans revere the team's legendary 2017 run, their feat has been muddied in controversy after a Major League Baseball investigation revealed the Astros were illegally stealing signs that season. In that report, they found that the Astros employed an entire system in which they decoded opponents' signs using live video, then relayed those signs to the batter by banging on a trash can.

The situation got even crazier when folks on Twitter did their own investigating, finding clips like this where Jose Altuve looks like he's telling his teammates not to rip off his jersey after a walk-off homer.

Although there is no banner to commemorate the Astros world series title outside the ballpark, the gold banner still hangs proudly in center field.

The Astros may well be on their way to competing for another World Series title. The team currently has a 35-19 record with an 8.5-game lead on the Angels for first place in the American League West.
