Logan Webb’s ears perked up Sunday night when he found out Albert Pujols was heading to the mound.
In one of the more entertaining scenes of the season thus far, the future Hall of Famer took the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals in the final inning of their beatdown of the San Francisco Giants.

Webb, one of the better-hitting pitchers in the game who no longer has the opportunity to grab a bat because of the universal designated hitter, was begging for a chance.
"I told them in the dugout to give me a bat and let’s get out there,” Webb said on the “Chris Rose Rotation” podcast.” I did tell all them that, but they all shut me down very, very quickly. It’s unfortunate, I loved hitting, it was fun. But I also understand why you don’t have the pitchers hit.”
When Pujols entered, the Cardinals were up 15-2. The Giants had just sent out a position player of their own to pitch in Luis Gonzalez, and he ended up cranking a three-run shot off Pujols, which was followed by a Joey Bart solo dinger before Pujols got the final out of the 15-6 win.
While getting run out of the building isn’t ideal, Webb made it sound as though the Giants took it in stride.
“It was awesome, and I know a couple of the guys were like ‘Man, do we just go up there and statue it?’" Webb said. "Just so that they could hear the crowd roar. I know (Evan Longoria) was saying ‘If there’s two outs, I’m just going to statue and just let it go’ It was cool, it was cool to see that. Obviously hate getting blown out like that, but there were some cool little moments during that game. One of our guys, Luis Gonzalez, threw and then he got to hit a home run against Albert Pujols. I know that was really special to him. (Longoria) got the first base hit so he’s having Albert sign it for him.
“It was a cool day, besides the asswhooping.”
