The Yankees are set to invade St. Louis in August of next season, but why are they already invading Cardinals hype videos for next season?

A highlight video was posted to the team’s Twitter account on Wednesday, which included all clips of Cardinals players doing something notable, except for one notable exception: Luke Voit, in Yankee pinstripes, smacking an opposite-field home run during a game against the Twins.

Voit once played for the Cardinals before being traded to the Yankees in 2018, but to include a Yankee highlight at all in a video hyping up ticket sales for next season seemed odd. But the video was deleted shortly after, so it was chalked up to a mistake.

Until shortly after that, when a new video with the same caption was posted on Wednesday night. Only this time, a random video of DJ LeMahieu, again in a Yankee uniform, was seen hitting a home run at Yankee Stadium, again against the Twins.

The Yanks draw a crowd wherever they go, so the inclusion of a Yankee highlight could just be the Cardinals trying to hype up that home series, which begins on Aug. 5. But why delete a video with a Yankee involved, only to post another with a new Yankee included? Perhaps they figured Voit specifically was in bad taste after he turned into the league’s home run leader two years after St. Louis traded him away, but it was a puzzling decision nonetheless. Some fans ran off with conspiracy theories that the team was hinting at a trade with the Yankees, but whatever the reasoning behind the Yankees in the video, this second version has been up for almost 24 hours now, so it likely isn’t getting deleted again.
