Sometimes, perception is reality.
Philadelphia Eagles rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith has begun to emerge as a star wide receiver over the last month. In fact, Pro Football Focus says that over the last four weeks the 23-year-old has been the sport's top-rated wide receiver:
Smith -- the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft -- had four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-13 win over the the Denver Broncos Sunday. That followed up his best game as a pro, when he caught five passes for 116 yards and one touchdown in a 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9.
On the season, the former Heisman Trophy winner has 42 catches for 603 yards and four touchdowns. He's unlikely to catch Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja'Marr Chase in the race for Offensive Rookie of the Year, but any doubts about whether Smith's stature would limit the ability for his talents to translate from Alabama to the NFL have been erased.
