In back-to-back years, the Buffalo Bills have asked Josh Allen to not only be their top passer in the postseason, but their best option on the ground as well.
While Allen -- one of the league's elite quarterbacks -- can run with both power and speed, it sure would be nice if he didn't have to be Superman every week for the Bills to have success.
With that in mind, former New York Jets and Miami Dolphins top executive Mike Tannenbaum believes that the Bills would be the perfect landing spot if the New York Giants elect to trade Saquon Barkley:
On paper, a move to one of the league's most explosive offenses -- and a chance to finally play with a star quarterback -- could allow the former Offensive Rookie of the Year to revive a career that's been marred by injuries thus far.
But there are a lot of moving parts to consider.
While the Giants aren't in a great cap situation, neither are the Bills, with Over The Cap currently estimating that Brandon Beane and company are more than $6.5 million over the salary cap. Cole Beasley could be traded or released, which would open up more than $6 million in cap space, but Barkley will come with a $7.217 million cap hit as he plays on his fifth-year option in 2022. With playoff hero Isaiah McKenzie set to become a free agent, the Bills would likely have to make some sacrifices elsewhere to acquire Barkley.
Additionally, Dan Duggan of The Athletic said Thursday that "the consensus trade value for Barkley is a fourth-round pick" at the NFL Combine, adding that he didn't think the Giants would part with the former No. 2 overall pick for that price. That may just be posturing from the Giants but it will likely take a non-insignificant draft pick(s) for any team to acquire Barkley.
