DeSean Jackson’s Los Angeles homecoming was fun while it lasted. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Rams and Jackson have “mutually agreed” to seek a trade partner, effectively ending his L.A. tenure. Coach Sean McVay confirmed D-Jax will not be in uniform for Sunday’s game at Houston.
Jackson, who ranks third among active players with 10,877 career receiving yards, had been a distant fourth on L.A.’s receiving depth chart behind starters Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Van Jefferson. Known for his elite speed and explosive playmaking ability, the 34-year-old still has the tools to be a difference-maker, even if Los Angeles never afforded him that opportunity. More than half of Jackson’s 221 yards this season came in Week 3 when he torched his former team, the Buccaneers, for 120 yards on just three catches, none more spectacular than his 75-yard touchdown sprint early in the third quarter.
Jackson would be a low-risk flyer for receiver-needy teams like the Colts and Saints, while the veteran deep threat could also be of use to the Eagles, who he played for from 2008-13 and again from 2019-20. A three-time Pro Bowler with five 1,000-yard seasons on his NFL resume, Jackson’s body has proven fragile in recent years with injuries costing him a combined 28 games since the start of 2018.
Jackson joins DeVante Parker, Brandin Cooks, Allen Robinson, Darius Slayton, Marlon Mack and Michael Gallup among rumored trade candidates ahead of Tuesday’s 4 PM ET deadline.
