Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – Bruce Arians wants to coach the Cleveland Browns – and bad.
He’s telling everyone and anyone that asks him.
There’s just one problem: the Browns might not be interested in him, again.
“I’d love to listen to what Mr. Dorsey and Mr. Haslam have to say,” Arians told Rich Eisen on the Rich Eisen show which airs on AT&T’s Audience Network on DirecTV Thursday afternoon. “I’ve always had this fondness for Cleveland and wanted that job almost every time it came open and never got an interview, so I doubt I’ll get one this time too.”
Arians, who works NFL games for CBS, has served as an analyst for a few Browns games this year.
A few weeks ago the Canton Repository asked Arians about the Browns vacancy, which kicked off what has been a public campaign for the job, although Arians denies he’s doing that. Rather, he’s just answered questions about the opening honestly.
“I’m not politicking for it. Just hey, would love to listen,” Arians told Eisen. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Gregg Williams doesn’t get a job with as good a job he’s doing right now.”
Williams replaced Hue Jackson as interim head coach on Oct. 29 and the Browns are 3-2 and have revived their playoff hopes since.
Arians, who spent 5 seasons as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, retired from coaching in January due to health concerns but told Eisen that is no longer a concern.
“I’ve gotten such a good clean bill of health this year off especially – other than I’ve gained 10 more pounds,” Arians said. “If I went back I would not call plays. I would turn it over to one of the guys I’ve trained and I would feel comfortable that way which takes a lot of the stress out of it.”
