CLEVELAND, Ohio – Carlos Carrasco has been diagnosed with leukemia according to a report from CDN 37 News in the Dominican Republic.
Carrasco, 32, hasn't pitched since May 30. He said that it's under control and that he's currently receiving treatments.
He was placed on the injured list on June 5 with what the Indians described as a "blood condition." Carrasco felt lethargic for weeks prior to the diagnosis.
“We have to err on the side of being respectful to Carlos and his family,” manager Terry Francona said last month. “When Carlos is comfortable talking more, he will. But that is strictly when he is comfortable doing that. He had been feeling sluggish, and because he’s had some heart issues in the past, he had some blood tests that led to this conclusion.”
Carrasco is 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA in 12 starts this year. He's played catch with teammates and has been a regular in the clubhouse over the past few weeks. He hopes to pitch again this season.
