Berea, OH (92.3 The Fan) – Regardless of opinion, Hue Jackson does not plan to give Baker Mayfield reps with the first-team offense.
Not anytime soon anyway.
"No, no, no, no, no,” Jackson said following practice Monday. “Everybody's asked me that a ton of times. Why? I'm going to tell you the reason why. We are learning a new system, and I think Tyrod needs every rep that he can get with the ones.”
Mayfield has spent all 17 training camp practices and the first 2 games of the preseason working with the No. 2 offense.
“I think Baker's doing outstanding with the twos,” Jackson said. “If something happens and we need to put him there, we will. Right now, that hasn't happened."
In 6 offensive series through 2 preseason games, Taylor has completed 9 of 12 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Excluding a kneeldown in the second preseason game, Mayfield has had 12 offensive series where he's completed 18 of 33 passes - or 54.5 percent - for 287 yards and 2 touchdowns this preseason.
