Cleveland (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns interviewed a member of New England’s coaching staff Saturday, just not the one many expected or hoped.

Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores interviewed with general manager John Dorsey and the rest of the Browns' search committee on Saturday.

The team confirmed the interview Saturday evening.

Flores has worked his way up the ranks under Belichick since 2004 where he started as a scouting assistant for 2 years.

In 2006 Flores was promoted to pro scout, then was named a special teams assistant in 2008-09, assistant offense/special teams coach in 2010, a defensive assistant in 2011, safeties coach from 2012-15, linebackers coach from 2016-17 and assumed play calling duties on defense this year after Matt Patricia was hired by the Detroit Lions as head coach last February.

It is unclear if the Browns intend to speak with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

The Browns are expected to interview current offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens and former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy next week. McCarthy reportedly interviewed with the Jets Saturday.

The team is not commenting on scheduled interviews or reports of them.

With Flores' assistance, New England, who holds the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoffs, ranked seventh in the NFL in scoring defense (20.3 points allowed per game) and tied for fifth with 28 takeaways during the 2018 regular season.

The Browns have been very busy this week in pursuit of their ninth full-time head coach in the expansion era of the franchise which began in 1999 and fourth since 2012 when the Haslams purchased the club.

Cleveland interviewed interim head coach Gregg Williams on Jan. 1, former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell Jan. 2, Vikings offensive coordinator Ken Stefanski Jan. 3 and Saints assistant head coach and tight ends coach Dan Campbell Friday.
