Berea, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns are getting a makeover in 2020 – at least their uniforms are – but the final product has not been finalized.

“No, I think there are still some things to be done,” owner Dee Haslam said Sunday, following the fourth day of training camp, when asked if the final design is completed. “It takes a little while. Obviously, you have to really work hard to get every detail right. I still think they are working on the development part of it, but it is coming together.”

The Haslams, who saw the uniforms changed in 2015 with the stripes being wrapped around to the chest and Cleveland placed across it – a first in the NFL – and Browns down the sides of the pants, are hoping to hit the mark with the new threads.

“We talk all the time about that Cleveland has a certain way about them,” Dee Haslam said. “I think the uniform that we are in development will fit our team really well – just our look and our feel of who we are.”

Mrs. Haslam remained steadfast that the helmet will not be modified in conjunction with the new look.

“No. No. Never. Absolutely never,” she said.

In 2015 the Browns maintained the spirit of the orange helmet by changing the shade to a darker, brighter color. They also switched from a grey to brown facemask, evened out the iconic Oreo stripe down the middle and added a checker-style shadow box detail to it.

The Browns requested in the spring for permission to wear their color rush uniforms between six and eight times this upcoming season as a primary uniform but according to Mrs. Haslam, they haven’t heard back from the league.

“We are really excited. Hopefully, that will work out,” she said. “It is a pretty good uniform. I think the players would be excited to wear it if it works out.”

The team’s branding is centered around the color rush and the official player photo and video shoots used the uniform as well.

The uniform schedules around the league are usually set by the end of July and no news could be bad news for the Browns.

The NFL has yet to respond to our request for comment on the issue.

Last year the Browns were able to wear them three times and it’s looking more and more like that’s the max we’ll see them in 2019.
