Berea, OH (92.3 The Fan) – Browns offensive line coach Bob Wylie suffered a broken ankle during Thursday’s practice.

Wylie, who is beloved by his players, fellow coaches and team employees, underwent surgery at University Hospitals Thursday evening.

The team said, “surgery went well and we’re all wishing him a speedy recovery.”

“Honestly, he’s one of the best human beings I’ve been around,” left guard Joel Bitonio said of Wylie earlier this week. “He’s a great coach but what he does off the field – he takes care of the people in the building and he’s just a great dude.”

Wylie has 44 years of coaching experience under his belt – 25 in the NFL alone – became a star during HBO’s Hard Knocks after being caught offering his theories on life, stretching and of course his stomach moving as he yelled, “set, hut!” to his linemen.

Wylie was featured in the team’s official holiday greeting video. He dressed as Santa Claus while his linemen, who sported antlers and were his reindeer, pushed him on a blocking sled as he chanted “ho ho ho!”

“I don’t know if it was Bob’s idea or whose idea it ended up being but they kinda came to us and were like, ‘Hey we want to do this video’ and we’re like, ‘We’re a little unsure of what’s going on’ and then we went out there and filmed it and it’s been a hit,” Bitonio said. “Anything that Bob has done this year I think has been a hit.

“To do something like that and show people kind of a fun side, and I think it’s cool we’ve won some games so we’re allowed to do that now. If you do that when you’re 0-14 it’s usually not taken very seriously but we were just having fun and we just want to wish people Happy Holidays.”
