Cleveland, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns released defensive end Chris Smith Tuesday and signed defensive tackle Justin Zimmer off the Atlanta Falcons practice squad.

Smith was inactive for Sunday’s 20-13 loss at Pittsburgh and the decision to release him was football related a source told 92.3 The Fan.

Smith appeared in nine games for the Browns this season where he totaled one tackle, an assisted tackle, quarterback hit and pass defensed.

Zimmer was originally signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and has been with the Falcons since 2018. A second-year player out of Ferris State, Zimmer was a member of the Falcons’ practice squad during the first 13 weeks of the 2019 season and also spent part of 2017 with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League after being waived by the New Orleans Saints.

The Browns also released safety A.J. Howard from the practice squad and signed defensive end Trevon Young to the practice squad.
