Cleveland, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns released left tackle Greg Robinson Sunday afternoon, but the team plans to re-sign him a league source confirmed to 92.3 The Fan.

The move was described as procedural and because Robinson is not subject to the waiver system, re-signing him shouldn’t be a problem for general manager John Dorsey.

Robinson was brought back in February on a one-year contract worth between $7 and $9 million that included just $500,000 in guaranteed money.

That contract was officially terminated Sunday.

Now to the unique roster management situation Dorsey found himself in Sunday that led to the termination of Robinson’s contract.

The Browns were awarded three players off waivers Sunday – Cardinals tight end Ricky Seals-Jones, former Rams receiver KhaDarel Hodge and former Bengals linebacker Malik Jefferson – and Dorsey needed to make three corresponding moves to maintain the mandated 53-man roster limit.

Defensive tackle Trevon Coley and safety Juston Burris were waived and the plan was to place offensive tackle Drew Forbes on injured reserve with a knee injury, but that transaction did not hit the wire Sunday afternoon in time but Robinson’s release maintains the 53.

Monday, the Browns can re-sign Robinson and Forbes officially goes on IR and the team has the option of designating him to return.

Robinson started the final eight games of the 2018 season that saw the offensive line allow just five sacks after allowing quarterback Baker Mayfield to be sacked 20 times in the previous six games.
