CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cavaliers won the fifth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery. They entered with the second-best chance of obtaining the top overall pick (14 percent), but the New Orleans Pelicans ended up with the first selection in the draft.
Former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin is a happy man after joining the Pelicans last month. Duke star Zion Williamson is expected to be the first pick in the draft.
The Cavaliers fall out of the top three, which means they’ll likely miss out on RJ Barrett and Ja Morant, who are considered the best prospects after Williamson.
Cleveland had a 47.9 percent chance of getting the fifth or sixth pick. The Cavaliers will also have the 26th pick of the first round.
