Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – The Indians acquired catcher Kevin Plawecki in a three-player trade with the New York Mets on Sunday. Cleveland sent right-hander Walter Lockett and infielder Sam Haggerty to New York.
Plawecki, 27, has posted a .218 batting average in four major league seasons. He made 79 appearances for the Mets last year, finished with a .210 average, seven home runs and 30 RBI.
The Indians were looking for help at catcher after trading Yan Gomes in November. Antonetti said Plawecki will be Roberto Perez's backup.
Plawecki spent six weeks last season on the disabled list with a broken left hand. He threw out 23 percent (16 for 70) of potential base stealers and had two four-RBI games. He was a first-round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft and has spent his entire seven-year career with the Mets organization.
