CLEVELAND, Ohio – Indians first baseman Carlos Santana has put himself in position to qualify for the Major League Baseball All-Star Election Day vote.
Santana, 33, moved into third place among American League first baseman. He leads the Indians with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and a .930 OPS. Santana trails Luke Voit of the Yankees and C.J. Cron of the Twins.
The top three vote-getters at each position (top nine outfielders) in the American and National leagues will advance to the Election Day vote on June 26 that will determine the starters for the July 9 All-Star Game at Progressive Field.
Francisco Lindor moved up to No. 5 among American League shortstops behind Jorge Polanco of Minnesota, Houston shortstop Carlos Correa, New York’s Gleyber Torres and Tim Anderson of the White Sox.
Lindor was No. 6 in the first results release. He's posted a .299 batting average and an .890 OPS in 204 at-bats this season.
Roberto Perez hit four home runs last week, which helped vault him from No. 10 to No. 7 in the latest results. Perez and Lindor both have 11 home runs, which is second on the team. Astros catcher Robinson Chirinos currently occupies the No. 3 spot and has more than 300,000 more votes than Perez.
Jason Kipnis moved from No. 10 to No. 8 among American League second basemen, while Jose Ramirez remained No. 10 at third base.
The primary vote ends on Friday at 4 p.m.
