CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Indians weren’t among the top vote-getters in the first All-Star release.
Francisco Lindor was sixth among American League shortstops with 175,868 votes. Carlos Santana was fourth among first basemen with 250,615 votes.
The top three vote-getters at each position in both the American and National League will advance to the 28-hour Starters Election on June 26-27.
Catcher Roberto Perez and second baseman Jason Kipnis were both 10th at their respective positions. No other Indians made the top 10, including two-time All-Star Jose Ramirez, who’s struggled for the Tribe this season.
Closer Brad Hand has 19 saves on the season and is the most-likely candidate to represent the Indians in the ‘Midsummer Classic.’ He’s allowed three runs all season long and has only given up one run since April 15.
All-Star pitchers are chosen by the Commissioner’s Office and the Player’s Ballot.
