Kluber was seen with his cast removed in the Cleveland clubhouse hours before the Indians game against the Rays at Progressive Field.
"He got what we were expecting," manager Terry Francona said. "They said 'expected healing' I think was the way it was termed."
With the ulna fracture in his forearm healing on time, the next step for Kluber is that the cast has been replaced with a removable splint.
"He can start doing range of motion and in two weeks he will be re-examined," Francona added.
Indians outfielder Tyler Naquin had been running and taking batting practice with the team this week after suffering a calf injury earlier this month.
"He (Naquin) progressed to outfield drills today," Francona said. "Next will be base running, which is on the horizon. Maybe tomorrow, we'll see. But he's progressing pretty quickly."
Naquin will be re-evaluated over the weekend. He's the most-likely candidate to replace catcher Eric Haase once Roberto Perez returns (concussion).
Speaking of Perez, the Indians catcher also got some positive news Thursday.
Francona said the plan for Perez is that he "hopefully goes through a full team workout today."
After that, Major League Baseball has to take Perez through the concussion protocol before he gets the okay to come off the concussion list and re-join the team.
"That's a good thing, I think for guys' safety," Francona commented on the league's protocol. "I think that's a really good process so we'll follow that."
The Rays have had a surprisingly hot start to the season, sitting just two and a half games back in the AL East at 28-18 behind the Yankees.
You'll see some familiar faces on the Tampa roster, including manager Kevin Cash, a former Indians bullpen coach under Francona.
One name you won't see in the Rays' line-up this weekend is former Tribe utility infielder Yandy Diaz, who was acquired from Cleveland this off-season. Diaz was just placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hand contusion.
Diaz has hit .256/.339/.500 with 9 HR in 41 games so far this season for the Rays. He never quite showed that power during his time in Cleveland
"He's doing terrific," Francona beamed of Diaz's numbers. "I think we always felt that Yandy was a tremendous hitter, that he needed some time for the field to kind of come around. It seems to have hastened (in Tampa). We knew he was a good hitter."
Tampa will send out Ryan Yarbrough to pitch today. He was just called up from Triple-A.
