The switch-hitting Allen struggled at the plate to start the season. He was hitting .105 ( 4-for-38) with six RBI in 19 games. Allen is a versatile defender, who's made some nice plays in the outfield. The Indians hope he can go to Columbus and get into a rhythm at the plate. Don't be shocked if he's back with the Indians later this season. Allen has one minor-league option left going into 2020.
Fans have been clamoring for Oscar Mercado to be called up from Columbus. He's hitting .321 with a .418 on-base percentage and two home runs in 20 games. The 24-year-old is expected to be a big part of the Indians' future, but he won't have a big role on their current team barring an injury.
Luplow's numbers were better in Triple-A and the Indians feel like he's ready to contibute this season. He posed a .385 (5-for-13) mark against left-handed pitching for the Clippers.
