Kluber will wear a cast for the next three weeks and will have X-rays taken weekly to confirm the ulna bone in his pitching arm is healing properly.
Kluber’s injury created some panic among the fan base. How much adversity can this team deal with before they reach their breaking point?
Not only do the Indians expect to overcome it, they think it can make them stronger.
"We’re going to meet after BP here for literally two or three minutes, just to remind guys who we are, what we stand for,” manager Terry Francona said. “One of the first things I tell them in spring training is how we handle adversity kind of defines, in large portion how your season goes. Now we’re getting it thrown at us, so how are we going to handle it?
“This can be our time to shine, or we can feel sorry for ourselves and lose. We want to make sure we scratch and claw and do everything we can so we can get number one.”
The Indians have overcome a lot this season. They dealt with injuries to Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis. The roster looks a lot different than it did a year ago and isn’t as experienced. They kept their head above water in April. Is it realistic to think that can continue when Cody Anderson and Jefry Rodriguez are thrown into the starting rotation?
“I don’t think we’re ever going to question where we’re going to be at the end of the season,” Adam Cimber said. “It’s kind of a frustrating start to the season, but I think that we’re all confident we’re going to be where we want to be at the end of the year and just keep our eyes on that.”
This Indians continue to believe in each other, regardless of the adversity they’re faced with. They aren’t panicking, despite losing a leader and one of the best pitchers in the game.
