Infielder Andrew Velazquez was recalled from Triple-A and will start at second base on Tuesday night against the Tigers. The Indians acquired him in a trade with the Rays on July 3. Velazquez posted a .244/.261/.378 slash line in 12 games for Columbus this season.
The Indians have been decimated by injuries this season. José Ramírez, Corey Kluber, Mike Clevinger, Carlos Carrasco are just a few of the many players that have missed significant time with various ailments.
Kipnis’ season is over. He finished with a .245 batting average, 17 home runs and 65 RBI in 121 games.
It would be surprising to see the front office exercise his $16.5 million club option for next season. It’s safe to wonder if Kipnis has played his last game as a member of the Indians?
