The former Browns linebacker agreed to a five-year, $53.75M deal with the Jaguars NFL Network reported Tuesday afternoon. The agreement includes a yearly average of $10.75 million, a $12 million signing bonus and $22.5 million guaranteed.
Former Browns general manager John Dorsey failed to reach an agreement with Schobert last fall on a contract extension and new executive vice president of football operations Andrew Berry was unable to do so before Schobert hit the open market.
Selected by the Browns in the fourth round, 99th overall, of the 2016 NFL Draft, Schobert became a stalwart in the middle of the Browns defense, making the Pro Bowl in 2017 when he tied for the league lead in tackles.
Coaches praised Schobert’s intelligence and tenacity over his four seasons with Cleveland that saw him play for three full-time head coaches and defensive coordinators.
Schobert started 49 of the 61 games he appeared in registering 394 tackles, 8.5 sacks, six interceptions, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries for the Browns.
Berry is tasked with replacing two of the three starting linebackers this offseason after cutting Christian Kirksey, who signed with the Green Bay Packers, last week and Schobert agreeing to join the Jaguars.
