Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – LeBron James’ I Promise School is getting a big addition.
James teamed up with DICK’S Sporting Goods, who pledged $1 million towards the project, to build a gymnasium at his I Promise School in Akron, Ohio.
The announcement was made in front of a few hundred I Promise School students at James’ alma mater Akron St. Vincent St. Mary.
“The best place for me at the end of the school year when I was growing up was right in this gym where you guys are right now,” James said. “And now I have the opportunity to bring it to you guys right up the street at your guys’ school. So, this is all for you guys.”
The grant from the DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation is part of their 'sports matter' program, an effort to help save youth sports across the country.
The I Promise School, which was unveiled July 30, 2018, is a partnership between James' LeBron James Family Foundation and the Akron Public School system to provide education to at-risk youth in the city.
