CLEVELAND, Ohio – Major League Baseball will honor CC Sabathia at the 2019 All-Star Game. The 19-year veteran will retire at the end of the season.
"We are delighted that CC and his family will join us in Cleveland, where his Major League career began," commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "We look forward to celebrating his many accomplishments durin our All-Star Game festivities."
Sabathia spent eight seasons with the Indians from 2001-2008. He won the Cy Young Award in 2007 and made three American League All-Star teams while in Cleveland.
“It was a great time, a great time for me,” Sabathia said before his final start at Progressive Field. “It just feels so comfortable to be in this park. Coming up here and being here for so long, just knowing where everything is in the stadium. It’s like home, for sure.”
Francisco Lindor, Brad Hand and Carlos Santana will represent the Indians in the 'Midsummer Classic.' Santana will start at first base for the American League and participate in the Home Run Derby on Monday night.
