CLEVELAND, OH – Matthew Dellavedova left Tuesday night's preseason finale against the Boston Celtics with a sprained right thumb. He will not return.
The veteran guard suffered the injury in the second quarter. He went up for a shot that was blocked by center Tacko Fall and began to hold his hand in pain.
He had five assists and three rebounds in nine minutes.
Dellavedova had a realistic chance to be an opening night starter for head coach John Beilein. If he misses time with the injury, Brandon Knight or Darius Garland could slide into the starting lineup.
The Cavaliers start the regular season on Oct 23 in Orlando.
