CLEVELAND, OH — Carlos Carrasco has only made one start this spring due to hip and elbow injuries.
He has dealt with right elbow inflammation since his start against the Angels on March 3.
An MRI revealed that there isn’t any structural damage, which is good news for him and the Indians.
The right-hander underwent an anti-inflammatory injection and will rest his arm for a few more days.
The 32-year-old battled chronic myeloid leukemia last season. He's hoping to re-join the starting rotation after making 11 relief appearances last September.
It's getting harder and harder to envision a scenario where Carrasco is ready for the start of the regular season. He's only pitched two innings so far this spring.
Carrasco suffered a strained right hip flexor at the start of spring training, which delayed his debut.
Roster Update
The Indians announced their second round of cuts, which include top prospect Nolan Jones.
Jones, 21, was invited to big-league camp for the first time in his career. He posted a .253 average with eight home runs and 22 RBI for Double-A Akron last season. He was a participant in the All-Star Future's Game last season at Progressive Field.
