CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – As states begin to ease stay at home orders and business closures during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NBA announced Monday afternoon its plan to begin reopening team facilities.
Teams were advised that the league is targeting Friday, May 8 to begin the process but that date is subject to change depending on developments nationwide.
Under the new guidelines, teams would be permitted to make their facilities available to players “for workouts or treatment on a voluntary, individual basis if the team’s facility is in a city that is no longer subject to government restriction.”
The league is working on contingency plans for teams that are in cities that remain under government restriction.
Although facilities would be made available, the NBA also placed restrictions on player access. No more than four players would be permitted at a facility at any one time; Head coaches or assistant coaches can not participate; group activities, including practices and scrimmages are prohibited and players are not permitted to use non-team facilities, including public health clubs, fitness centers or gyms.
