CLEVELAND, OH – José Ramírez’s season is over. The Indians announced the two-time All-Star will miss 5 to 7 weeks after having surgery to repair the broken hamate bone in his right hand.

The Indians regular season ends on September 29, which means there’s a chance he could return in time for the postseason

Ramírez swung at a 2-0 pitch in the first inning of Saturday’s game against Kansas City and grimaced in pain. An MRI confirmed the fracture. He had surgery on Monday afternoon.

Ramírez posted a .313/.360/.643 slash line with 16 home runs in his last 60 games. His resurgence has helped the Indians climb back into the AL Central race.

Rookie Yu Chang and Mike Freeman are expected to split duties at third base.
