The Swedish watchmaker announced Beckham as “our new icon” in a short video posted to Twitter Wednesday morning.
“There’s always a method to the madness,” Beckham said. “The partnership with Danny Wellington, I’m very happy to do that but the watch topic, I’m gonna leave it alone for now.
“I’m not talking about watches anymore.”
According to the company’s website, its watches cost between $139-$229, a far cry from the orange Richard Mille, which retails for over $185,000, he wore in Week one against Tennessee that drew criticism from the league office.
Beckham wore what appeared to be a clear version of the watch, which reportedly retails for just over $2 million but there are conflicting reports as to the style and brand of the watch during pregame warmups Monday night but removed the watch prior to the 23-03 win over the Jets.
“I guess everybody would say it's pretty difficult, but when you work so hard at something, you kind of go out there and let the hard work pay off or the training pay off,” Gillan said of winning the award in just his second week in the NFL punting. “I just go out there, catch the ball and cause fair catches and punt it where Coach wants it, that's about as hard as it gets for me. That's how I try to keep it in my head.”
Gillan had six punts for 231 yards against the Jets Monday night and he landed five punts inside the 20-yard line, the most of any player in Week 2. Gillan leads the league with 8 punts downed inside the 20 through two weeks.
“Special teams understands how important they are to our success, and Jamie certainly understands that,” Kitchens said. “He has been doing a great job.”
Gillan’s efforts helped limit the Jets to one punt return for five yards and provide the Jets with an average starting field position of the 18-yard line.
“I knew I could get back to that point, but I’m still not where I want to be,” Beckham said, referencing a hip injury that slowed him in camp. “I know that there’s just a little more left in the tank, just trying to figure out how to get to it.
“I would definitely expect something faster than that if I get the opportunity to get in the open field.”
