CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Terry Francona will return to manage the Indians on Tuesday the team announced Monday.

The 61-year old Francona, who was sent back to Cleveland prior to the series finale at Minnesota Aug. 2, missed the previous eight games due to gastrointestinal discomfort.

Cleveland will host the Chicago Cubs for a brief two-game homestand before returning to the road Friday night at Detroit.

Francona, who has been bothered by the issue since spring training in Arizona, underwent tests and evaluation last week at the Cleveland Clinic.

First base coach Sandy Alomar Jr. managed the club in Francona’s absence and led the team to five wins.

No team in the American League has won more regular season games since 2013 than Francona and the Indians.
