No trade for Brandon Aiyuk has been consummated. Despite all the rumblings, Aiyuk remains a members of the 49ers as they negotiate with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And according to The Athletic, that isn't about to change unless something changes with the Steelers' offer, or if the 49ers can get their hands on another wide receiver.
Per Diana Russini, Matt Barrows and Mike DeFabo, the 49ers haven't been satisfied. The report reads the following:
"The Pittsburgh Steelers are still engaged in trade talks with the San Francisco 49ers involving receiver Brandon Aiyuk, although the two sides have yet to reach an agreement, league sources told The Athletic on Wednesday. The 49ers, to this point, haven’t been satisfied with the Steelers’ offers and would like a receiver in return for Aiyuk as part of a trade, although they are open to players at other positions, league sources said."
What is abundantly clear is that the 49ers, who just signed receivers Robbie Chosen and Jontre Kirklin amidst a receiver shortage, would be immediately thin there if they dealt Aiyuk.
Could they move for another position? Defensive end would be the only spot that could possibly make sense, with Leonard Floyd not totally convincing in camp. But that doesn't solve the receiver problem. And dealing Aiyuk for picks and replacement players this late in the summer doesn't make all that much sense.
So, the wait for a resolution continues. Aiyuk remains a 49er, having turned down the Patriots, seemingly the Browns, with the Commanders out, and the Steelers not meeting the asking price. It lingers on.
