Briles -- who had a 99-65 record in 13 seasons as a collegiate head coach -- was dismissed by Baylor in the summer of 2016 after the emergence of a sexual assault coverup scandal that took place in the football program during his time as the head coach.

The most notable person to speak out about Briles' hiring at Grambling State was Doug Williams, the MVP of Super Bowl XXII. Williams played collegiately at the HBCU and had two stints as their head coach.

“I’m very, very disappointed in Grambling,” Williams expressed to Nicki Jhabvala and Andrew Golden of the Washington Post. “I talked to the A.D. a couple times. They knew where I stood, but they did it and if that’s what they want to do, that’s fine. I’m out.”

Former NFL head coach Hue Jackson is taking over as the head coach at Grambling State, and issued a much-maligned statement in defense of his choice to hire Briles Monday:

Less than 12 hours later, it doesn't appear that Briles will be joining Jackson's staff after all.
