It looks like cornerback Joe Haden will be testing the free agent market at the end of the season, after asking for a contract extension earlier in Training Camp.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Haden’s agent Drew Rosenhaus says the Pro Bowler “will test the free agent market in 2022 when the cap is expect to increase significantly.”

Rosenhaus added that Haden has never been on the free agent market before and they believe he has a high value.

Rosenhaus said a few weeks ago that Haden wanted an extension so he could finish his career with the Steelers.

Haden tweeted on Wednesday, indicating this could be his last year in Pittsburgh.

But at 32-years-old, the Steelers likely don’t want to gamble and give Haden another two years if they see a drop off in his play in 2021.

But even at his age, Haden is still one of the better corners in the league.

Haden recently told the Pat McAfee Show that he won’t switch to nickel or safety, like other players have done to extend their careers.

“I’m playing outside corner until the wheels fall off,” said Haden.

He is going into his 12th season in the NFL and fifth with the Steelers.

Haden spent his first seven seasons with the Cleveland Browns until he was released on August 30, 2017.

He was picked up by the Steelers and has performed well at a position the Steelers have struggled at.

After an injury to Marcus Peters, Haden was named to his third Pro Bowl last season and finished 2020 with five interceptions, 65 tackles, 17 passes defended along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Haden is in the last year of his contract and will make $7 million and delivers a $15,575,000 cap hit.
