Bill Belichick has not hid from expressing his seemingly unending respect for Josh Allen.
The legendary New England Patriots head coach often is effusive in his praise for the Buffalo Bills quarterback. He took it to another level in January, though, when he entered the Bills’ locker room after the Patriots’ playoff loss to Buffalo to talk to Allen and congratulate the 25-year-old.
For many coaches, that might be considered a weird move, or one that felt like it had an ulterior motive. But Bills general manager Brandon Beane thought it was cool, and explained on the "Pat McAfee Show" why he had no issues with the gesture from Belichick.
“He’s earned that right. I think that was pretty cool," Beane said. "I think Josh thought it was cool. I was good with it, we’ve got Josh under like an eight-year deal so it’s not like he can steal him away.”
Beane, in the same interview, joked that he would trade himself before he traded Allen. So, fair to say he's quelling any (non-existent) chatter around Allen's future in Buffalo.
And, indeed, the Bills and Allen have committed themselves to one another for quite a while. Allen’s contract doesn’t officially end until he hits unrestricted free agency after the 2028 campaign, but there is an out in his contract after 2025.
So, Belichick has at least a few more years of watching Allen terrorize the AFC East.
