A lot of folks did not want to see Aaron Rodgers play Saturday night against the Giants, Evan Roberts especially noting he’s seen enough important injuries in the annual Giants-Jets preseason game to never want to see a star involved again.
However, A-Rod looked great, going 5-for-8 for 47 yards and a touchdown in his limited action, and returning after a week off Monday, Boomer wasn’t just impressed – he made a bold prediction.
“He is going to make Garrett Wilson a superstar,” Boomer said as the show opened. “You can see this kid can catch everything and is going to be amazing – and if I put the number at 47.5 for touchdown passes for Rodgers, if he stays healthy and plays 17 games, it will be over that. It will be so much fun to watch, and it was good to see Aaron in an actual game.”
Boomer thinks even with a stout defense, the Jets will have to score a lot of points, especially with a front-loaded schedule full of elite QBs where they won’t be favorites for the most part, and Jerry agreed that what he saw Saturday bodes well.
“For me, just watching it…I sat here a couple of weeks ago and loved what I saw, and this to me feels different,” Jerry said. “That did not change with what I saw Saturday night. The command of the offense is exactly what we expect, and he looks great.”
“The defensive line is going to be their strength, and the offensive line will be fine,” Boomer replied. “The third preseason game where Mekhi Becton was mauling people, that was great to see, and him being the starter at right tackle is something Jets fans have been waiting for. I’m sure Aaron Rodgers has talked to him to try to get him motivated, and what he was going to bring was the big thing coming in.”
Becton, and the rest of the line, are going to be paramount to Rodgers’ success, even with all the weapons around him.
“Because of the way this league is set up, it really comes down to whether or not the quarterback can stay upright for 17 games,” Boomer said. “They have one of the hardest starting schedules, and a lot of good teams on there.”
