Former longtime NFL assistant and Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis was roasted on social media on Friday, after he fired off an unfortunate tweet about Russia's invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

While Weis, who last coached from 2012-14 with the Kansas Jayhawks, of course was not alone in feeling passionate about the tragic developments, his seemingly confused, ignorant hot take did not sit especially well with many users.
The 65-year-old New Jersey native, who won three Super Bowls as offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots, seemed confused about Russia's capitalist economic system, which has been in place since the dissolution of the Soviet Union way back in 1991 -- Weis' first year as an NFL assistant, with the New York Giants.
"I never tweet anything about politics, but today is an exception," Weis said. "As I watch Russia continue their invasion of Ukraine this morning, I ask if Americans that want socialism are watching? Do you want to be a part of something like this?"
The brutal analysis prompted many users to suggest Weis -- who had a losing record as a college head coach and was bought out of his contracts with both Notre Dame and Kansas -- should have followed his first instinct to not tweet about politics at all.
Sadly, Weis wasn't the only well-heeled former college football coach unleashing a bizarre anticommunist screed. Just a day earlier, on Thursday, former Auburn head coach turned U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville made similarly unhinged claims.
The hilarious and scathing responses to Weis' strange take were too many to count:
