CLEVELAND. Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Tuesday’s meeting with Deshaun Watson in Houston has left Baker Mayfield wondering what is next for him.
It would appear his days as the Browns quarterback are coming to an end and a divorce is imminent.
With his future now in doubt, Mayfield posted a thank you to the city of Cleveland on his social media accounts Tuesday night.
Here is the full, unedited text of Mayfield’s post:
“Cleveland,
The Past 4 years have been nothing short of truly life changing since I heard my name called in the draft to go to Cleveland. This is not a message with hidden meaning. This is strictly to thank the city of Cleveland for embracing my family and me. We have made many memories and shared growing in this process through all the ups and downs. I have no clue what happens next, which is the meaning behind the silence I have had during the duration of this process. I can only control what I can, which is trusting God’s plan throughout this process.
I have given this franchise everything I have. That is something I’ve always done at every stage, and at every level. And that will not change wherever I take my next snap. Whatever happens.. I just want to say thank you to the fans who truly embraced who I am and the mentality that aligned so well with this city’s hard working people.
Cleveland will always be a part of Emily and my story. And we will always be thankful for the impact is has had and will have on our lives.
Sincerely,
Baker Reagan Mayfield”
The message read like a goodbye.
It probably was.
Mayfield removed “Browns QB” from his social media profiles Tuesday night.
The pursuit of Watson speaks volumes about the Browns feelings towards Mayfield, selected first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He is not going to be Andrew Berry’s long-term franchise quarterback.
Here’s the problem for Berry: if Watson doesn’t choose the Browns, which is quite possible with the Saints, Panthers and Falcons all in the running and placing bids, he might not be able to get the toothpaste back in the tube and the bridge with Mayfield could be nuked for good.
If so, then what on earth do the Browns, who started 29 different quarterbacks between 1999-2018, do then?
