BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The third day of the NFL Draft delivered a stunner.
Shedeur Sanders is a Cleveland Brown.
Here’s the top Brownie Bites from Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
She-Boom – The Browns traded up to No. 144 overall in the fifth round to select Sanders sending Philadelphia their last two remaining day three selections – No. 166 in round five and 192 in round six. “[You] got to come in and work, and you got to come in and compete,” Berry said. “That’s the message. Nothing’s given. Given the nature of the weekend for him relative to, let’s say, external expectation versus what happened. We did tell him that it really doesn’t matter where you’re picked, it’s what you do from that point forward because that’s the reality for all the guys that we selected this weekend.” Sanders, at first thought to be a top-five draft pick earlier this offseason, fell through the first two days of the draft and through the fourth round on day 3. “I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity,” Sanders said. “Throughout everything, I don’t ever focus on the negative or even think about the negative because the positive happens so fast, and it’s a change of emotions.”
Who made the call – After already drafting Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round, 94th overall, this just doesn’t feel like a Berry move, but that does not mean that it was not. “I think we’re probably just tired from the weekend,” Berry said when asked about the video circulating that showed him and Stefanski emotionless during the selection. “Those clips… it’s not timed up to exactly the right time,” Stefanski said before Berry added, “When we’re actually making the pick.” Damage control was on. “Don’t read too much into that,” Stefanski said. Based on history, and the profile of the player involved, it is fair to ask if managing and principal partner Jimmy Haslam stepped in here. “Jimmy lets us do our jobs,” Berry said before repeating, “Jimmy lets us do our jobs.” The Browns social media accounts have been pushing out a tsunami of Sanders content and fans are being bombarded with season ticket advertisements. We saw this with Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield. They would have with Deshaun Watson if it wasn’t for the appalling baggage he came to town with. The Browns will definitely sell tickets and jerseys, but will Sanders help them actually win football games?
Change of plans – Sanders appeared to be off the Browns board after the team shockingly took Gabriel in the third round, No. 94, Friday night. The dramatic shift in the plan is hard to ignore. “I guess we wouldn’t necessarily characterize it as dramatic,” Berry said. “I think just like I could probably say the plan wasn’t necessary to take two running backs. Like, you envision how the draft could possibly play out, and then you just really adjust to what’s on the board. And like I said, like we don’t really go into the draft saying okay, like, ‘hey, here are our needs and we’re just going to pick players at need positions.’ If you do that’s typically how you make mistakes. So, there is a little bit of a flow to the weekend because the board does take different twists and turns as you go. Some expected, some unexpected and ultimately we try and do everything in our power to maximize the impact of the picks we have in aggregate. And part of the reason you have to do that is being flexible.”
No. 126 – The Browns selected their second running back of the draft with their first Saturday pick. Tennessee’s Dylan Sampson went 126th overall in the fourth round. “We knew we needed an infusion in that room in general,” Dan Saganey, director of player personnel, said. Cleveland selected Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins 36th overall Friday night. Berry claims the selections do not mean Nick Chubb’s days in Cleveland are over. “I’d say not necessarily, but the complexion of our running back room has changed this weekend,” Berry said. “And so, as we work through the undrafted free agency process, maybe take a breath on Sunday, we’ll reassess kind of where the roster is and what opportunities are available to us on the veteran market, and then we’ll operate from there.”
Making history – The Browns are the first team in the modern draft era to select two running backs and two quarterbacks within the first five rounds of the same draft according to ESPN stats and information.
