Browns DL coach Chris Kiffin up for Packers coordinator job per report

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Browns defensive line coach Chris Kiffin is among a list of candidates scheduled to interview for the Packers vacant defensive coordinator position according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

Green Bay elected not to renew the contract of Mike Pettine, who went 10-22 in two seasons as Browns head coach from 2014-2015.

Under Kiffin, Cleveland’s starting defensive line of Myles Garrett, Larry Ogunjobi, Sheldon Richardson and Olivier Vernon combined for 28.0 sacks, 50 QB hits, 32 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during the 2020 regular season.

Garrett was named to his second Pro Bowl this season and was named first-team AP All-Pro. He also earned All-NFL and All-AFC honors from the PFWA.

Kiffin came to the Browns after spending the previous two seasons with the 49ers as a pass rush specialist where he helped develop Nick Bosa, who was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording nine sacks in 2019. In 2018 DeForest Buckner recorded a career-high 12 sacks and was named to his first career Pro Bowl.

The Packers elected to make a change after losing the NFC championship to Tampa Bay 31-26. After the game Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was critical of a defensive call that resulted in a 39-yard touchdown, a strong hint that Pettine would not return.
