CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns began filling out their practice squad by re-signing 13 players that were cut Tuesday.
Here’s the top Brownie Bites from Wednesday.
Ward returns – Cornerback Denzel Ward returned to practice for the first time since suffering a concussion on August 12. “He’s doing well. He’s progressing,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said. “Certain benchmarks you need to hit and that type of thing, but he’s doing well.” Stefanski wouldn’t say if Ward had been completely cleared from the protocol, just that the three-time Pro Bowler had been cleared to practice. “It means a lot to see him back out here healthy and everything, running around,” defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson said. “Just you’re happy to see your guys get back on the field, your brothers you play with and everything. All of us are happy to be back out here.” It was Ward's fifth known concussion since he was drafted fourth overall out of Ohio State in 2018. Ward appeared to suffer the head injury during a drill when he had a helmet to helmet hit with receiver Elijah Moore. Both players were wearing the guardian caps on their helmets.
Welcome back – Browns executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry signed 13 players to the practice squad Wednesday afternoon: wide receivers Jaelon Darden, James Proche II and Michael Woods II; offensive tackles Germain Ifedi, Lorenzo Thompson and Roy Mbaeteka (International Player Pathway Program); defensive backs Tony Brown II, Christopher Edmonds and Justin Hardee Jr.; defensive tackles Sam Kamara and Jowon Briggs; linebacker Winston Reid; long snapper Rex Sunahara. All 13 were with the team this offseason and cut on Tuesday.
Waiver wire – Berry was not awarded any waiver claims from Tuesday’s released players around the NFL and no Browns were claimed either. With the claiming order based on the 2024 first-round draft order for the first two weeks of the regular season, the Browns are 23rd in claiming priority.
Quote of the day – “I was just surprised that I made it. I’m hard worker and it’s started paying off for me, so I appreciate AB and Coach Stefanski for giving me opportunity. So I'm just going to make the most of my opportunity this year.” Receiver Jamari Thrash on his reaction to learning he made the Browns initial 53-man roster.
Roll Call – OT Jack Conklin (knee), LT Jedrick Wills Jr. (knee), Maurice Hurst II (hamstring), WR David Bell (quadriceps), LB Nathaniel Watson (quadriceps) did not practice.
