CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns continue to move closer to building in Brook Park.

Friday afternoon the Haslam Sports Group closed on the purchase of 176 acres of land bordering Snow and Engle Roads a person familiar with the agreement tells 92.3 The Fan.

According to records filed with Cuyahoga County, Primacy Development, a company tied to the Browns and located at the team's headquarters 76 Lou Groza Blvd. in Berea, bought the land for just over $76 million.

The Browns plan to build a $2.4 billion enclosed stadium and phase one of a privately-financed mixed-use development costing an additional $800 million.

Early in 2024 the team secured a purchase option agreement for the property and exercised that option in late December.

Earlier this week the Ohio legislature included $600 million in state funding for the project through the escheatment of $1.7 billion from the state’s unclaimed property fund to create a new Sports and Culture Facility Fund for stadium projects statewide.

The Modell Law, invoked by the city of Cleveland in a lawsuit against the Haslams and Browns in Cuyahoga County Court, was also modified as part of an amendment attached to the state budget to allow the team to relocate 12 miles from downtown Cleveland.

Ohio governor Mike DeWine is expected to sign off on both provisions barring any poison pill language included in the legislation once he receives and reviews the final budget that was passed by the Ohio house and senate on Wednesday.

The Browns aim to break ground on the project in early 2026 with construction to be completed in time for the 2029 season.
