CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Browns kicker Cody Parkey and reserve linebacker Montrel Meander were placed on injured reserve Monday as part of the team's roster reduction to 80.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski made the announcements Monday afternoon.
“I’m disappointed for Cody,” Stefanski said. “He’s a veteran that came up big in some big moments for us last season.”
Parkey, 29, replaced Austin Seibert in Week 2 after he was released and made 19 of 22 field goals and 43 of 47 PATs in the regular season. He was perfect in the playoffs, making all 11 kicks.
The quadriceps injury to Parkey leaves the Browns with Chase McLaughlin, who hit a 49-yard field goal Sunday, as the only place kicker on the roster.
“He’s battling. He’s done a nice job and we expect him to keep battling,” Stefanski said.
Meander, who was re-signed by the team last week following a torn biceps tendon injury suffered by linebacker Jacob Phillips, will require surgery to repair a torn Achilles.
Stefanski had some good news concerning cornerback Greedy Williams, who is “day-to-day” after suffering a groin injury. Williams had recently returned from a hamstring injury in camp after missing the entirety of the 2020 season due to a shoulder injury involving a nerve.
All three players suffered injuries in the Browns’ 17-13 preseason victory over the Giants Sunday.
Tight end Connor Davis also was put on IR with a shoulder injury.
To complete the roster reduction, receiver Alexander Hollins was waived and offensive tackle Alex Taylor was waived with an injury designation.
Teams have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. to reduce their rosters to 80.
