CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Browns defensive end Myles Garrett suffered a sprained shoulder, biceps strain, minor lacerations and other bumps and bruises following his car accident Tuesday the team said.
Garrett did not suffer any broken bones and he has also cleared concussion protocol, but his status for Sunday’s game at Atlanta is unknown.
“First – and most importantly – we are thankful that Myles, his passenger and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday,” Browns executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry said in a statement released by the team. “After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts. Myles didn’t suffer any fractures and has also cleared concussion protocol. Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week.”
Body camera footage released Tuesday shows Garrett sitting in the grass while being tended to. His left biceps was tended to along with bleeding on his right wrist and hand. He was able to walk to the ambulance under his own power.
Garrett, who was released from the hospital Monday night, was taken to an area hospital along with an unknown female passenger following the accident.
Garrett suffered the injuries Monday afternoon around 3 p.m.
when the Porsche he was driving went off the side of the road and overturned multiple times in Sharon Township in Medina County.
NFL Network reported that Garrett was trying to avoid hitting an animal on State Road as he drove southbound before the crash.
Garrett and his passenger were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
Impairment from drugs and alcohol is not suspected as the crash remains under investigation according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
