CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 the Fan) – The Browns placed rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday.
The team also placed receiver Ryan Switzer on the Practice Squad/COVID-19 list.
Should Wills continue to test negative, he could be eligible to play against the Jets a league source told 92.3 The Fan.
“I think I would just tell you, there's a possibility,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said Thursday morning.
Similar to other reserve/COVID-19 list additions this year, Wills was deemed a high-risk close contact and placed on the list as a precaution in accordance with league protocols.
The Browns selected Wills with the 10th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and the rookie has had a strong first season anchoring the left side of the offensive line.
Kendall Lamm would be called upon to play in place of Wills Sunday if he isn't cleared.
“Kendall is ready to go if he’s the guy,” Stefanski said. “He’s prepared every week as if he’s getting ready to start. He’s the swing tackle. This is when those guys have to be ready to roll.”
The Browns have had to shake up their offensive line due to injury. Chris Hubbard was placed on injured reserve after suffering torn ligaments and a dislocated kneecap against the Giants Sunday night.
Hubbard was filling in for Wyatt Teller at right guard, who is out with an ankle injury, likely a high ankle sprain.
Nick Harris is expected to make his first NFL start at right guard.
“I don’t think it’s anything new to any team,” Stefanski said. “Look around the league, people are dealing with injuries, dealing with the COVID list. That’s all 32 clubs are, to some degree, dealing with this.”
