BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Apparently Jacoby Brissett has a career in comedy when his football playing days are over.
At least that’s according to his Browns teammates.
“Yeah, he is a funny guy,” left guard Joel Bitonio said.
“I mean he’s a little bit sarcastic sometimes and stuff but he’s a good guy and I think the locker room really does kind of lean towards him and he relates well to a lot of the players.”
So what makes Brissett such a funny guy – physical comedy, dad jokes, knee slapper punch lines or just being a smart aleck?
“It is just people like that,” Brissett said as linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. stood behind the cameras and was laughing as the quarterback fielded questions, “who just laugh at anything that comes out of certain people’s mouth, and they just blow up the situation that is not even there.”
Brissett is unquestionably one of the most popular players in the locker room. His sense of humor plays well with everyone.
“He's a great teammate,” right guard Wyatt teller said. “A lot of energy. Not like talking your ear off. You're going to hear, a good play, he's going to be hyping up, he's going to be talking, he's going to be chopping up. Bad plays, he's upset. Visibly, he's like, look, I don't want to have mistakes, I don't want to make mistakes. So, there's power in that. I know a lot of guys are the same way.”
Brissett is expected to keep the Browns afloat while Deshaun Watson serves his 11-game suspension and there’s little question that everyone feels he is up to the task.
“I think just coming here and being the same person every single day,” linebacker Jacob Phillis said. “I think you can count for how to gauge somebody when they’re the same person every day. I think he does a great job of that, whether it’s when he came in, or with Deshaun [Watson], and now obviously with the suspension. So I think he’s going to lead us in the right direction.”
Don’t sleep on me – Brissett also apparently likes to nap as much as he likes making people laugh.
“He’s a big nap guy,” quarterbacks coach Drew Petzing said.
Brissett, who spoke on the opposite end of the tent where Petzing did, was asked about them.
“It's being interrupted right now,” Brissett said smiling. “It's really time to myself and then my eyes just happen to go to sleep. Just a couple minutes just to be to myself and kind of just relax in the midst of all the commotion of meetings and walkthrough and working out and stuff like that, just trying to relax a little bit.”
Bitonio on Baker – Like Garrett Tuesday, Bitonio didn’t bite on the Baker Mayfield bait Wednesday when asked about playing against him in the opener September 11.
“For me, I’m playing against Carolina’s defense, and obviously Baker’s going to be there for us,” Bitonio said. “It’s going to be a good challenge for us, I know that the guys will be pumped up for it. But it’s the Carolina Panthers we have to face and we’re going to be ready for that.
“And me and Baker are on good terms. I texted him throughout the offseason and once he got traded there I wished him luck. I always had his back and I’ve always had his back and he was nothing but good to me as a person and so … We’ll be ready though for Week 1 and the Carolina Panthers.”
Midseason form – Nick Chubb appears to be in midseason form. Chubb continues to make explosive plays on the daily in practice and Wednesday was no different.
Chubb blew through the defense on a run and had another big run after catch on another play during team drills.
Polls still open – Voting for the Browns field design this season ends Saturday. Fans can vote on the options here.
Roll call – WR Amari Cooper, WR Michael Woods II, WR Daylen Baldwin, CB Greg Newsome II, RB Jermome Ford, DE Chase Winovich, OT Chris Hubbard, and DE Jadeveon Clowney did not practice Wednesday.
