BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns were able to breathe a sigh of relief after learning Myles Garrett did not suffer any serious injuries following his single-car accident Monday afternoon.
Understandably, Garrett did not practice Wednesday.
“Very, very grateful he's okay,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said.
“He's staying home today, resting.”
Stefanski said “we’ll see” when asked if Garrett will practice Thursday when he returns to the building.
The team said Tuesday Garrett cleared concussion protocol but his status for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated as the week goes on.
Garrett’s Porsche went off the side of the road and overturned as he was driving southbound on State Road in Sharon Township, located in Medina County Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
“The main thing is that he’s OK and obviously our thoughts are with him,” quarterback Jacoby Brissett said. “Just want him to be healthy.”
Garrett and a female passenger were transported to a local hospital. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident the Highway Patrol said.
“I’m just glad he’s alright,” safety John Johnson III said. “Something like that happens, it’s just scary for anybody. But I heard he had his seatbelt on. I don’t know if that helped out or not but that was good. I’m just glad he’s okay.”
After seeing pictures of Garrett’s car following the accident, Johnson was relieved.
“They said they flipped over multiple times so anytime that happens, you at least have some type of major injury, but I’m just glad he came out there clean,” Johnson said.
Garrett did not break any bones but did suffer a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations and other bumps and bruises.
“It could be anybody,” backup defensive end Alex Wright said. “He's OK. We're glad he's OK. I talked to him, he's good. It could've been worse, but it's not. We're all glad he's OK.”
With Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney dealing with injuries, Wright could be called upon to start Sunday in Atlanta.
Johnson didn’t want to speculate about Garrett’s playing status but believes it might be best for the three-time Pro Bowler to take a week off.
“I wouldn't be surprised. I know he probably wants to,” Johnson said. “But if you asked me I think he just personally should just sit it out. But I have no idea. Just knowing him, he probably wants to play, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he did, but that's a tricky situation. I think he should just take it easy man.”
